Dimreepr says...
"If the context is, in public to humiliate an innocent party in the most degrading way you can think of, that's deplorable and deserving of punishment."
and I tend to agree with that sentiment.

So, to get back on topic, is this not what S. Bee did ?

Hmm, do you think shows should ensure that their material is inoffensive?

The racism is only being used to insult someone, and it's okay to insult someone in a certain context.

Racist insults, regardless of context, is never about "someone."  It's about using a false and humiliating opinion of a "people" as a weapon. Emerging from the least evolved among us, any and every expression of racism is an insult and assault on a people, on humanity itself.

Opinions of races don't have to be false. Often stereotypes of races have some truth to them.

There is this idea that someone must somehow be held responsible for a racist comment, as if they should be held accountable for being a certain way. What seems to be happening is that instead of being punished for doing something wrong, it seems like people are being punished for being wrong in the eyes of others, for a racist or bigoted comment. The real motivation, however, lies in an emotional reaction of an attitude against racism rather than actually having reason behind it.

I tend to feel equal disdain for 'racial' hated and gender hatred.
Only dark skinned people are hatefully compared to apes, and that's what R Barr did.
To me, that displays hatred towards a 'race'.
Only women are called 'feckless c*nts', and that's what S Bee did.
Tome, that displays hatred toward a gender.

Should everyone have forgiven R Barr if she had apologized "profusely and sincerely" also, rangerx ?
And if R Barr had made those comments during a televised comedy routine instead of twitter, do you think she should have gotten a pass, CharonY ?
How did that work out for Michael Richards ?

I understand the equivalence you’re suggesting, MigL, but it does feel a bit like you’re trying to get all of us here to agree that a serial rapist is precisely the same as and indistinguishable from a guy who awkwardly and unsuccessfully asked a girl to dance one night after a few too many drinks.

No,I'm not making an equivalence between the two.
I understand R Barr has a history of stupidity and hatred, and frankly, I expected no better from her.

I did expect better from S Bee.
That's why her comments are almost more disappointing.

Fair enough, but I suppose we’re all cunts every once in a while and so long as we don’t make it a trend tend to deserve a pass.

Except they don't. Care to give a reasonable example?

If Roseanne was contrite about her history of racist rants and sincere in her apology, then sure. The Ambien thing was outrageous, if not laughable.

Roseanne a serial racist. It's a stretch to call Sam B. a sexist based on single incident.

Have you or anyone you know ever been called a prick or a dick? Do you accuse them of sexism or hate speak too?

The flaws with the concept if race have been highlighted repeatedly yet repeatedly ignored. Perhaps we start there instead of further humoring this decidedly unhumorous and uninformed line of discussion.

Me ?
Called a d*ck or pr*ck ?
Quite often ( possibly by a few of the forum membership ).

But never by someone on TV.

Blacks being less intelligent than whites. Blacks have an average 86 IQ compared to the average 100 white IQ.

Different races are associated with different geographical areas of development and ancestry, so the concept of race has some validity.

For the sake of the discussion, lets say you were called that over something you said on this forum.

Would you be offended as opposed to introspective, adamant or indifferent?

I suspect you are not long for this site.

The context was that Ivanka, specifically, is a c-word and not that women in gender are c-words. Bee herself is a women after all. Barr's, whom is not black, used a racial slur which hits home with all blacks and white bigots alike. There is a clear contextual difference you insist on ignoring.

People can forgive Barr if they want. I seriously doubt she won't get anymore work in the future. Micheal Richards still worked after his incident so I am not really sure what your point is?

This is exactly what I think when I hear people on the left saying the left needs to do a better job reaching out and understand have the right feels, find a way to get to the middle. It is impossible. The right is prepared to win by any means necessary. Concessions only excite the right and become a call to triple down. For reasonable people meeting in the middle seems like a way to move forward. For the right the middle is half way there, they almost got it and just need to keep the pressure on.

Trump is the most vulgar and openly sexist nationally elected politician the U.S. has had. He pays off porn stars, brags about grabbing p*ssy, brags about peeking in on naked teenage pageant models, and has made many sexually charged comments about both his own daughters yet conservatives still attempt to pass themselves off as "offended" by the c-word; give me a break. This is the same Ivanka and the same Donald Trump that repeated said during the campaign that Ivanka would not work in the White House. They bold faced lied. She has an office there and is sitting in as her dads representative at events all over the world while on the side still closing private business deals and enriching herself. It is reprehensible. Ivanka is a terrible person. When Trump is out of officer, regardless of which party replaces him, nepotism and business conflict laws will be updated. We all see what is going on.

Sam Bee has spoken for herself and explained exactly why she's sorry, and also why she's not. I like how she addressed this head on. I see integrity and strength in this approach.
