There is no force unless it is being exerted. Take, for instance, the (empty) point one metre above my head, and the Earth's gravitational field. What force do you calculate the field is exerting at that point?
swansont Posted August 4, 2018 Posted August 4, 2018 Static implies no motion. So when this terminology is used, it refers to forces, such as the normal force and tension, in a system with no motion in it. Dynamic (or possibly "active") forces imply there is motion involved.
