I have made with "Visual Basic" a [10*10] ChessBoard with 2 twins-Kings and chesspieces that:

(1) they move and play like their images...

and (2) you have 3 Basic "simple pieces" ( the soldier-Rook  &  the soldier-Bishop  &  the Knight )

which you can "step-by-step" add together ( with the Help of Transformers-Buttons ) to make 29 more "complex pieces" !!!

( you can separate them "step-by-step" again !!!... )

( 001 = 3 = "soldier-Rook"  /  010 = 5 = "soldier-Bishop"  /  100 = 7 = Knight)  -  ( Each chesspiece has 2 Numbers !!!... )

Example: ( Addition: 001 + 010 = 011 / Multiplication: 3 * 5 = 15 )

( The "011" shows how the pieces can move !!!... and the "15" shows: ( = 3 * 5) in which Basic "simple-pieces" it can split again !!!... )

On the main chessboard the selected piece can play like its "image" and move to the "yellow-squares" !!! (like a normal chesspiece...)

... or ...

... with the "Transformers-Buttons" <<< ( LEFT from the main chessboard )... it can split into 2 pieces again or can add an additional piece !!!...

The 2 visible LEVELS : (1) the Red & Blue chesspieces... and (2) the Black-White chessboard !!!...

The 3 hidden LEVELS : (3) the "yellow-squares" - (4) &(5) the double-numbering of the chesspieces !!!...

5b6f7d1646305_TransformsButtons.thumb.PNG.3f81814a34c907e6514706c595ea457a.PNG

These are the 5 LEVELS of the "Transforms-Buttons" !!!... ( You can see only the Left ONE !!! )

133.PNG.1d664a3cb82ba54d060509cc315b7da9.PNG

This is an example how a "complex-chesspiece" (=133) can split with the "Transformers-Buttons" into 2 more "simple" chesspieces !!!...

My idea was based on the Game "Yu-Gi-Oh" with the Dragons... and that the Queen = Rook + Bishop !!!...

The other 2 "smaller" chessboards on the Right >>> side of the main chessboard shows the "threats" of each Player !!!...

example.PNG.26c19a0ba0dc46c26ae87d5f6fe117b4.PNG

This is an example of a different start-possition ...

21 = 3*7 ... or ... 21*3 = 63 ... 21*9 = 189 ...

175 = (5*5*7) = 5*35 = 25*7 ... or ... 175*3 = 525 ... 175*15 = 2625 ... 175*27 = 4725 ... 175*5 = 875 ...

{ 3,5,7 } are "prime numbers" !!!...

I have made my "Transform Chess pawns" with "LEGO" Bricks !!!... - On the 2 Images is the "full complex pawn" (=133) or [23625]

133 is for: ( 100 = move like the Knight ) + ( 030 = move 1-3 Squares like the Bishop ) + ( 003 = move 1-3 Squares like the Rook )

( It would be nice if you make a comment about my Idea !!!... )

I think it is pretty cool... I like the splitting and combining of pieces to evolve them into different pieces. Personally though I feel that chess is complex enough anyway - I am not sure it will catch on or how practical it would be to be taking apart and reassembling lego pieces throughout the game. Maybe as a computer game it could work - but what do I know?

It also reminds me of other chess variations that are purely out there for fun (Chess is a well established game with World Championships etc), they will never topple chess as stand alone game - it has been around a long time and is renowned for being an excellent well respected game. Variants such as Dragon Chess, Quantum Chess, Space Chess and computer games like the one where your pieces can either move or fire laser weapons at the opponents pieces (can't remember what that was called now - star chess or something).

THANK you DrP very-very much for your comments !!!... You have right !!!...

It is NOT  practical to take apart and reassembling LEGO pieces throughout the game !!!...

But I will buy LEGO-Bricks and make my [10*10] chessboard only for Fun !!!...

But I have made on my Computer other Chess Variants too !!!...

(1) The "xiang-qi" China Chess... (2) The "shogi" Japan Chess... (3) a Chessboard with <HEXAGONS> for 3 players...

(4) a 3 Dimensional 6*[6*6] Cube-Chess... (5) a 3 Dimensional ( 5*[5*5] outside & 4*[4*4] inside ) "Truncated-Octahedron"-Chess...

(6) a Chess with Dices-pawns: ( 1=King, 2=pawn, 3=Knight, 4=Rook, 5=Bishop, 6=Queen )

where you can turn the Dice-pieces and change the pawn which is on the Top of the Dice!!!...

and ... (7) ChessBoard-X...

But this would work easily/well as a computer game though. :)

I do! :) I watched a youtube vid of a guy playing a 4 way chess match once - was interesting....  therefore I like the 3 way game you mentioned....   and the chimps too - I fancy my chances in a game of chess against any of them!  :D

I once built myself a 3D Dragon Chess board out of Perspex. My friend, who had shown me the rules and the board design was quite impressed that I had built the thing and we played a game using paper tokens as the pieces.

Ah!  I made it in 1992....  I no longer have it I am afraid, sorry. :)

It was a three tiered board made from Perspex with red and blue squares. I coloured in the squares with marker pen so the board was still transparent but had coloured squares. It was a little fiddly to get at the pieces on the bottom and the middle layers - the size was only about 12x 8 inches each board.  It had 4 vertical supports that I super glued into place, made from the same material as the boards.   The game took a couple of hours to play.

Cutting the pieces to size was easy  -  assembling it so it held together was a little tricky but I got there in the end with it.  It fell apart after a year or 2 and I never got around to sticking back together as it took up less space in storage whilst collapsed. After 20 years or so it got thrown out during a house move and clear out. I should have kept it.

You have the choice to add your "simple-pieces" into more powerfull "complex-pieces" but at the same time you have less pieces  !!! - (???)

Posted

unfortunantly... my "Visual Basic"  Chess-programs plays only on Windows-7 - and NOT more on Windows-10 !!!...
