Melkor Posted August 26, 2018 Posted August 26, 2018 I need to know what a corresponding point means or is, in terms of: Suppose the point P(2,3) is on the function f(x). Find the point that corresponds to P on each function; show or explain how you figured this out. (a) f (x + 4) (b) f (x) + 3 (c) -2 f (x)(d) 1/2 f (x - 5) + 1
studiot Posted August 26, 2018 Posted August 26, 2018 Welcome Melkor and well done for posting in the correct place, have you read the rules for homework help? I can see that you can't even start the first one from what you are saying so I will do that one as a hint/example. I have done it graphically as this shows what we are trying to achieve - that is move the line f(x+4) to pass through P (can you see it does not at the moment). You can also calculate the coordinates of the new point C Can you see how to do that?
Melkor Posted August 26, 2018 Author Posted August 26, 2018 (edited) Thank you so much! this really helps. (and no i have not read the rules, i didn't even know there were any) 11 hours ago, studiot said: Welcome Melkor and well done for posting in the correct place, have you read the rules for homework help? (i'm sorry and thank you for your help) (i'm also an idiot and just realized i made a mistake and don't know how to edit my post) but P is actually (2,-3) i didn't even notice i forgot the negative) Edited August 26, 2018 by Melkor
Country Boy Posted August 29, 2018 Posted August 29, 2018 Here, you are told that (2, 3) is a point on the graph of y= f(x). That, of course, refers to x= 2, y= 3. A "corresponding point" for, say, f(x+ 3) would be (a, b) such that x+ 3= a and f(x+ 3)= b.
