Yesterday, i Saw a video in which it appeared Neil de grasse Tyson, and he explanes that tides where because of not only the Moon but the sun too. swansont Posted September 3, 2018 Share Posted September 3, 2018 You'll get more specific answers if you ask more specific questions, Tides vary as 1/r^3 while gravity varies as 1/r^2, so the moon being relatively close to us means it has a larger tidal effect than it does from a purely gravitational standpoint.
