Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone! I’ve recently Jokin this forum and i wanted to ask a question. Yesterday, i Saw a video in which it appeared Neil de grasse Tyson, and he explanes that tides where because of not only the Moon but the sun too. So, i was wondering if someone in the comments can simplify me the explanation of this event.

You'll get more specific answers if you ask more specific questions,

Tides vary as 1/r^3 while gravity varies as 1/r^2, so the moon being relatively close to us means it has a larger tidal effect than it does from a purely gravitational standpoint. Highest tides occur when the moon and sun are lined up; their effects add together
