I’m picturing you in the suburbs in your front yard in front of a mini van, two kids and the missus dresses up gangsta style doing poses.

You just literally described the bulk of audience for Rap today. Like any popular media it caters to and is designed for mass consumption by the largest audience of consumers with the purchasing power. Drake, Jay Z, Nicki Minaj , Cardi B, 6Nine, and on and on and on produce music to entertain suburbanites because that is the market with the disposable income to buy the music, concert tickets, and etc. Yeezys cost over $500 a pair. Does anyone really think youths in low income communities are the target audience for that, of course not.

But iNow is not the audience in this case, he’s the performer :)

Than he needs needs a better Hustle than just kids, mini van, and wifey. Each kid needs a Pit Bull puppy with a chain leash, the mini van needs to be hot boxed out, and wifey needs to be double fisting bottle service. And unless iNow is Will Smith he needs to curse on his records.

I can neither confirm nor deny that this is the case. I am legally obligated to point out, however, that Mr Smith won't be "jiggy" with any more discussion of his alleged secret identity.

Yep, thats basically what I thought too.

Thanks to whoever it was (Phi, I guess). Perhaps we could have "kept it real" by changing it to F-X or something more "street". Uhm... Bro. Or whatever.

It's the greatest genre of all time.

"Born alone, die alone, no crew to keep my crown or throne
I'm deep by sound alone, caved inside, 1,000 miles from home
I need a new brother for this black cloud to follow
Cause while it's over me it's too dark to see tomorrow" -  Nas  "The World is Yours"

"I reinforce the frail, with lyrics that's real
Word to Christ, a disciple on streets, trifle on beats
I decipher prophecies through a mic and say peace.
I hung around the older crews while they sling smack to dingbats
They spoke of Fat Cat, that brothers name made bell rings, black" Nas  "Memory Lane"

"One for the money, two for the better green
3-4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine
Told the knock kneed ghetto queen get the head fiend
Tell him it's for Medallin and use oxcyocetaline" MF DOOM  "All Outta Beer"

"How DOOM hold heat then preach non-violence?
Shhh, he about to start the speech, come on, silence!!
...On one starry night, I saw the light
Heard a voice that sound like Barry White, said "Sho you right"
Don't let me find out who tried to bite
They better off goin' to fly a kite in a firefight
During tornado time with no coat than I caught ya
Wrote the book on rhymes, a note from the author
With no headshot, he said it's been a while
Got a breadwinner style to get a inner child to finna smile
And that's no exaggeration
The doctor told a patient "It's all in your imagination negro"
Ahh, what do he know?
About the buttery flow, he need to cut the ego...
Trippin', to date the Metal Fellow been rippin' flows
Since New York plates was ghetto yellow" Madvillain "Raid"

The "greatest" is always about the time of ones formative years. For me, it was the rock/blues guitarists of the 70's.

I am probably of a similar age (or older!) and, much as I love blues, 70s R&B, 60s psychedelia, etc I do think rap is one of the greatest genres of popular music!

Yes, "Popular". My tastes  were/are more niche (not popular in the mainstream sense) but I do like some rap with respect to the rhythm and flow.

Fair point. Although I meant “popular” as opposed to classical, rather than commercially successful. (Although the distinction is probably irrelevant. I expect someone will soon include rap in an opera, if they haven’t already.)
