You do realize that hurricanes form over the ocean which is rather highly saline already... right?

Right but not salty enough. Fresh water is being dumbed into the ocean from rivers. This mixing of salt water and fresh water dilutes currents. This will increase the evaporation of the water. The storm will use the evaporated water as fuel. More salt will slow evaporation.

At the distance from shore hurricane develop the input of rivers is negligible at worst.  Adding a significant amount of salt would be environmentally dangerous to say the least. But if it worked and made air fall due to being dense it would simply displace less dense air which would rise and feed the storm..

What kind of environmental things are we talking about? I should be clear that this wouldn't happen near shore and the aim is at the moist air.

Well let's see, killing of ocean plankton and fish would be one negative...

So I guess humans lives dont matter then.

You would do better with hurricane resistant buildings but it's not an us or them problem, ruining the environment can kill billions...

True. So pretty much its a domino effect that is probably not a good idea to mess with. I really wanted to bomb a hurricane.

A strategically place explosion during the build just before or as it begins rotation can make it weak and maybe stall it out. Think about the escape velocity of the air following the rotation.

So you're basically suggesting that every few days during hurricane season we just bomb the hell out of easterly waves and tropical disturbances off the coast of Africa before we even know they are a real threat?

And it's not just the salt that would be a problem.  If you were successful at preventing some hurricanes with bombs, there are still consequences to consider.  While the lack of hurricanes may be good for polar ice and slowing the rise in sea levels, we could expect even hotter temps in tropics that could give rise to even stronger storms/hurricanes.

So rather than bombing tropical waves like a bunch of paranoid meteorologists shooting from the hip at any possible threat, it's probably best to just deal with hurricanes though proper planning and U-Hauls. . .

I hope that one day salt is truly understood.

But if we truly understood Salt, then she wouldn't have been able to save us from the Russians.
