MulderMan Posted July 22, 2005 Posted July 22, 2005 I dont know much about this subject but i think i know more about it than the person i was arguing with. The other day in school this girl who takes the "child development" class was arguing to me saying "babies cant be fed water because they cant digest it and they will die". At that point i laughed. I dont think alot of parents feed babies water, but substitute it with milk, then i thought isnt milk the babies "food"? Thanks.
Glider Posted July 22, 2005 Posted July 22, 2005 Babies can be given water. Water isn't 'digested'. It is absorbed as is. Milk is mainly water (with a fat emulsion and some proteins and sugars).

YT2095 Posted July 22, 2005 Posted July 22, 2005 sometimes milk alone esp when it`s really hot weather will make them a bit constipated too, so cool boiled water is essential to give them on such days, a good way to know is to feel the anterior fontanelle, if it`s a little bit concave, the baby`s dehydrated, water will help with this

YT2095 Posted July 22, 2005 Posted July 22, 2005 babies can drink cold water, just boil it 1`st then let it cool, it`s perfectly fine as for cows, they can give milk for as long as there`s a demand for it, same allpies to Humans, they can breast feed for years if need be, but as demand lessens so does the production of milk.
