On cars, as far as I know, the oil indicator on the dashboard is relying on measurement of oil pressure rather than oil level. Low oil pressure means the pump isn't circulating enough oil, or there isn't enough oil in the system for the pump to circulate. Edited December 26, 2018 by Ghideon Added an icon
