In such riddles there is often play on words. e.g. "I become second", second might means it's something correlated with time. 1 second, 2 seconds etc. "chop off my head", "cut me front", "cut me back", might means removing digits from sequence of numbers, or mathematical equation/function (rational function?), from which we are removing some parts. e.g. function y = a/b "chop off my head" would mean getting rid of "a" variable, which is on the top of equation ("head"). b number could have format e.g. cdefg, "cut me front or back" -> remove c or g digits. "cut me front and back" 2nd time -> remove the right digits remaining from previous step.
