Sarahisme Posted August 4, 2005 Posted August 4, 2005 hey i can't decide whether the answer to quesion 39.3 should be the same as 39.2 (b) or © i gather its © because from the pions view (in the pions inertial reference frame), the time elapsed is 2.6x10^-8 s , and so it would be (.85c)(2.6x10^-8) = 6.6m
Daecon Posted August 4, 2005 Posted August 4, 2005 [post deleted as I don't know what I'm talking about ] Sorry. Although, what would the effect of time dilation be at 0.85c?
MetaFrizzics Posted August 4, 2005 Posted August 4, 2005 Wow, finally now I can actually read one of your questions: perhaps I can try to solve it before you do!
losfomot Posted August 4, 2005 Posted August 4, 2005 hey i can't decide whether the answer to quesion 39.3 should be the same as 39.2 (b) or © i gather its © because from the pions view (in the pions inertial reference frame)' date=' the time elapsed is 2.6x10^-8 s , and so it would be (.85c)(2.6x10^-8) = 6.6m[/quote'] I got the same answer. But I went the long way around. I took the distance travelled in the labs reference frame (12.6m) and factored in length contraction to get the distance travelled (6.6m) in the pions reference frame. I think your point of view is much simpler.
