Scientist_Supreme Posted September 23, 2019 Posted September 23, 2019 I would be interested to hear what your thoughts are on the role of mitochondria in longevity (specifically in humans but it doesn't have to be.) I have drafted an experiment procedure that could potentially deepen our understanding, but I want to find out what already know as a collective. Thank you for your time!
CharonY Posted September 29, 2019 Posted September 29, 2019 There is a huge body of literature out there highlighting the role of mitochondrial dysfunction in a vast variety of diseases, the impact of mitochondrial degradation in cellular aging as well as metabolic syndromes. In short, mitochondria are suspected to be at the nexus of many diseases and dysfunctions. However, there is also some caution regarding mitochondrial research, as (sub)-cellular findings are notoriously difficult to translate to physiological effects in whole organisms. Nonetheless, there is so much information out there, that it would quite impossible to put a post out there that would summarize it in any way comprehensibly.
