j-man123 Posted August 5, 2005 Posted August 5, 2005 Humans I think have only gotten to where we are due to our great capacity for memory...and language. Yes with those 2 things...BOOM, the dawn of man! Our instincts then were not only from our genes...but language. NO more natural selection! Now with thousands of years of recorded history to teach man his lessons; the wholeness of our difference from animal is the evolution of instinct! Whats next? Maybe a universal language? If we could read anothers mind ... then maybe would man evolve into something even better!
ecoli Posted August 5, 2005 Posted August 5, 2005 Humans I think have only gotten to where we are due to our great capacity for memory...and language. Yes with those 2 things...BOOM, the dawn of man! It was hardly "boom" Humans get memory and language and we're the super race. These things happen more gradually.
amaureo Posted August 5, 2005 Posted August 5, 2005 i don't agree with ur statment "I think have only gotten to where we are due to our great capacity for memory...and language." in my oppinion humans are here because of our ability to adapt and create something out of nothing . . . . . . . now it is imperative that we have great procesing and comunicative capacity, but that only impruves our speed of progres and inventivnes . . . . . . . . anh how cool would it be for us to have ability of telephaty, but for now that is a bit too StarTreky (dont get me wrong, I'm a big fan). And no one knows what the future holds, it is posible that the human mind will evolve and turn into creatures of pure thought, but than again we might eradicate ourselves so there is really no poit of thinking what if, we should concentrate on the NOW
Hellbender Posted August 5, 2005 Posted August 5, 2005 Humans I think have only gotten to where we are due to our great capacity for memory...and language. Among other things, including our inventive mind and dextrous hands and elaborate social structure. Yes with those 2 things...BOOM, the dawn of man! This depends on what criteria you use to seperate hominids from other haplorhines. Bipedalism is usually used as the criteria, as the abnormally large brains we have came later. Our instincts then were not only from our genes...but language. If the behaviour is learned (as is the case with a lot of primate behaviours) then it is not instinct. Whats next? Maybe a universal language? If we could read anothers mind ... then maybe would man evolve into something even better! No comment.
