StringJunky Posted October 27, 2019 Posted October 27, 2019 (edited) I ordered some bait from a company and they are charging vat on the postage. Is this allowed since vat is already paid on the stamp thst they use? Edited October 27, 2019 by StringJunky 1
swansont Posted October 27, 2019 Posted October 27, 2019 It sounds like the answer is yes, even though there is no VAT when you buy stamps https://soundaccountingservices.com/pay-vat-postage/ 2

michel123456 Posted October 29, 2019 Posted October 29, 2019 I have noticed that sometimes VAT is even imposed on top of other taxes.
StringJunky Posted October 29, 2019 Author Posted October 29, 2019 Apparently, packing and its materials is a service which if charged is taxable.
dimreepr Posted October 29, 2019 Posted October 29, 2019 (edited) Value added tax is a way to justify a tax on almost everything, food for instance; let them eat cake, comes to mind, or sanitary products? Value, in this context, is so ambiguous as to be almost meaningless... Edited October 29, 2019 by dimreepr
michel123456 Posted October 30, 2019 Posted October 30, 2019 VAT is a tax on the exchange of money. The one who invented VAT was evidently living in an economy of welfare. In times of recession it is an instrument that pushes forward black money, making things worse.
