ScienceNostalgia101 Posted November 23, 2019 Posted November 23, 2019 Let's say you're graphing some function... for simplicity's sake, some quantity over time. There's a time interval that needs to be skipped because nothing happens during that time interval. What would be the proper way to skip that interval on the x-axis? I've seen zig-zags, dotted lines, etc... and I would like to be filled in on what is the correct way. Thank you in advance.
studiot Posted November 23, 2019 Posted November 23, 2019 (edited) I don't think there is a 'correct' way. The important thing is not to give the impression that the graph have a particular value in the 'skipped bits' so clean breaks between the segments so that the plotted function does not directly connect across the skipped interval.
