"When you're a star, they let you do it"

On the subject of being allowed to do or say outrageous things because you're "a star," I believe I heard Trump say in his last rally something like "If I say something a little bit false, the news is all over it!  They make such a big deal about it!" or something like that.  Did anyone catch his remark?

He is suggesting that he should be allowed to say things "a little false." :D  And his crowd didn't notice it was weird.

It's a tactic he uses successfully to destroy limitations. He lies so much it becomes difficult to gauge their degree of egregiousness, so he gets away with behavior over everyone else's limit. He screams that the press are the enemy of the people, and they don't hold him as accountable as they would anyone else (why aren't normal outlets reporting the true craziness he spouts at his rallies? Why aren't we getting a journalistic analysis of why someone rants for half an hour about imaginary toilets that require 10 flushes?). He screams so loudly about the corruption of others and it absolutely makes a lot of people ignore the fact that he's King of the Swamp, probably one of the most corrupt leaders the US has ever had.

He gets away with it because we let him. We don't demand actual information from our leadership. We fall prey to tactics most of us find obvious. The taxpayers almost completely fund this 24/7/365 political circus in one way or another, helping to perpetuate a system designed to favor wealthy participants only. We willingly let it happen, willingly cut our own throats and act against our own best interest, just like we're willing to eat or drink or drug ourselves to death. The vast majority need publicly funded programs for education and health, yet we willingly let the elite condemn that as "socialism". Trump is purposefully increasing our tolerance for outrage, and it seems to be working. With Republicans, when it comes to asking a foreign power for favors against political opponents, when you're a POTUS they let you do it.

The strategy is: Flood the zone with shit

https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2020/1/16/20991816/impeachment-trial-trump-bannon-misinformation

Quote

it’s the consequence of a deliberate strategy. It was distilled almost perfectly by Steve Bannon, the former head of Breitbart News and chief strategist for Donald Trump. “The Democrats don’t matter,” Bannon reportedly said in 2018. “The real opposition is the media. And the way to deal with them is to flood the zone with shit.”

This idea isn’t new, but Bannon articulated it about as well as anyone can. The press ideally should sift fact from fiction and give the public the information it needs to make enlightened political choices. If you short-circuit that process by saturating the ecosystem with misinformation and overwhelm the media’s ability to mediate, then you can disrupt the democratic process.

What we’re facing is a new form of propaganda that wasn’t really possible until the digital age. And it works not by creating a consensus around any particular narrative but by muddying the waters so that consensus isn’t achievable.

“It would not be impossible to prove with sufficient repetition and a psychological understanding of the people concerned that a square is in fact a circle. They are mere words, and words can be molded until they clothe ideas and disguise.”

Please excuse the weird formatting below. I don't know how to fix it after I copied and pasted from Huffpost.

I knew that Trump was a big fan of pro wrestling. In fact he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2013. Why is that since he is not a wrestler? Because McMahon liked Trump. Only problem was Trump was booed off the stage at the ceremony! I had always assumed that Trump's base were probably also fans of pro wresting, since Trump's act is like a pro wrestler bad-mouthing his opponent before a match. Fans of pro wrestling like it FAKE, just like Trump. I believe that when he was inducted into the "Hall of Fakes" (because pro wrestling is obviously fake and choreographed) his base didn't know much about him except that he is an obnoxious billionaire. Now I think fans of pro wrestling are very likely also his base. There must be a high correlation between fans of WWE and Trump's base. Right?

"Donald Trump was reportedly booed off the stage at Madison Square Garden on Saturday, according to various reports and attendees. The 66-year-old businessman attended the April 6 [2013] event as an inductee into the organization’s 2013 Hall of Fame.

Trump was booed for most of his speech and eventually cut it short after the abuse,” according to a Wrestling Online recap. His son was also apparently booed, but his daughter, Ivanka, was not. “Trump noted that at least there is a member of the Trump family that the MSG crowd liked!”

My point is "When you're a star they let you do it," such as be in the pro wrestling Hall of Fame without even wrestling.

I don't know anything about wrestling, but a quick search shows the Hall of Fame has an executive division for promoters and others who contribute to the industry without being in the ring. Honestly, you don't need to go searching for obscure reasons why this man is a stain on society. He pretty much tracks mud everywhere he goes.

LOL. Well put.

Why don't his political opponents get this? They literally move the goalposts toward his wheelhouse when they think they are dragging them the other way.
