i closed My Documents and it decided it didn't want to respond. when it finally went away, so did my taskbar and my desktop.

That's interesting. I don't recall KDE distros typically having a "My Documents" folder. Makes sense, I guess -- might make things easier for people transitioning from Windows to Linux. (Or were you a Gnome guy? I can't remember for sure now.)

i still have to use windows for the internet, because i'm not smart enough to figure out how to configure my cable modem on my distro. on thursday, i am getting Ubuntu 5.04

Oh this was a Windows problem? I gotcha.

 

Are you still having problems or did it just recover on reboot? Windows Explorer can sometimes reset itself, but if not you can just reboot and it generally recovers pretty well.

If that happens again, CTRL+ALT+DEL > New Task > explorer.exe.

If windows has occassional crashes, id reformatte and reinstal windows. I reformatted my familys desktop the other day becuase applications would crash alot, and now none crash at all. I guess linux and unix are notorious for being very stable. I gotta try lnux some day, but im still trying to fully understand windows. I still have alot to learn.

explorer.exe has always had issues with occational crashes, it genrally only happens very infrequently and is nothing to worry about. If it keeps happening you might want to try and work out why :S

ya, i have had windows explorer crash on me alot, mostly before i reformatted. Mozzila firefox also has some serious crash problems though also.

i have never had firefox crash on me. do you have all of the updates? maybe i am just lucky.

Sometimes funny plugins will make it crash, I've never had a problem personally.
