Am I correct in assuming that the South Atlantic anomaly (“Bermuda Triangle”) is part of a series of pole reversals around Earth; whereby it will nullify the magnetic field around its geographical sphere of influence i.e. an ozone layer hole ?

If so, then the CFC ban in place during the 1990s was not the cure, nor the ailment, for an ozone hole, would that be correct ?

I know of the South Atlantic Anomaly (related to the Van Allen Belt) and the Bermuda Triangle (related to paranormal activity or extraterrestrials) as two different things. Can you clarify what you are speaking about?

Well, forget Bermuda Triangle then, I think that I must have conflated the two as they have a similar effect, but yes the Van Allen Belt.

Would you say that the resulting gap in that part of the magnetic field was linked to a hole in the ozone layer? I understand they're different layers, but is there a link?

The South Atlantic Anomaly is not a pole reversal. It is a distortion/reduction of the geomagnetic field that might be a step towards a pole reversal, but probably is not . Domingos et al note that  "One of the striking characteristics of the present geomagnetic field is denoted the South Atlantic Anomaly (SAA) where the total field intensity is unusually low and the flux of charged particles, trapped in the inner Van Allen radiation belts, is maximum."

However the ozone hole has nothing to do with the van Allen Belts or the SAA. Its causes are discussed in this wikipedia article. The presence of the holes at the poles is related to extended sunlight hours in hemisphere summers, wind patterns, low temperatures, etc. The ozone hole arose largely because of CFCs. The ban on these is allowing the ozone levels return towards normal. It will take till near the end of the century before these levels recover to those present before CFC use.

The hole in the ozone layer is, for starters, in the wrong hemisphere. Population, industry and land surface area testify to that. Chloroform Ch3Cl doesn't burn, Carbon Tetrachloride CCl4 was used as a fire extinguisher until people died when it formed phosgene gas COCl2 with hot iron, which gas was used in WWI to kill enemy troupes, but causing continuing problems much as agent orange has for veterans. Phosgene is still used to create insecticides and herbicides. Poison dart frog toxins are chlorofluorocarbons or CFC's. Carbon Tetrachloride was also discovered to cause instant fatal renal failure, while sold as dry cleaning fluid. The common factor in these deaths was alcohol in the blood of the victims, and it was banned.

The claim that the ozone layer is leached by CFC's, even supplying some supposed chemical equations, seems unlikely. Class actions may have been threatening, besides the inability of natural processes to remove them from the environment, where they concentrate up the food chain. Ozone is a powerful oxidising agent. The solar wind consists of protons and electrons and the protons head south. They are oxidised by ozone O3 and even by ordinary oxygen O2, creating water missing an electron. This discharges slowly, or by producing red meeting the discharging green electrons rising in aurora Australis, or as red sprites drawn by lightning strikes (electrons rising) and manifesting above storm clouds. Borealis is normally green as electrons descend to earth. Possibly the current here implied contributes to the earth's shifting magnetic field.

In these ways our planet's waters have grown from scanty puddles and seasonal springs as on Mars today. The traces of water on Venus is tied up as fuming sulrhuric acid (H2SO4 + nSO3), formed by the instability of sulphates at the temperatures of Venus. Had the oceans of Venus and Mars been blown away by the solar wind as often claimed, there would be no such phenomena on either of these worlds. Our seas continue to grow, and have been since cyannobacteria evolved 3800 MYA, Our ocean basins continue to grow and multiply. The state of this equilibrium is responsible for the great climatic changes through the Neolithic and Cenozoic Ages.

The atmosphere under the geomagnetic poles isn't as protected as the rest. CFC's were still ultimately causing the problem though.

How do you explain the improvement to the ozone layer since the addition of CFCs to the atmosphere has been reduced?

Covid 19, less sunspot activity, increased environmental awareness. Carbon Monoxide levels may well correlate since nothing man made would be more of an influence. But have you an explanation why the hole is in the SOUTH, rather than in the NORTH? The solar wind blasts out to the Ord belt, and hydrogen condenses as ice out there, so the south deflected protons, which are nascent ionised hydrogen atoms at high speed = temperature would even trump the damage done by airliners. I have answered the question asked, "Why is it in the South?" Have you anything better to offer?

Are you under the impression that ozone layer has only gotten better in 2020?

Any data to support this or are you just guessing?

No.

“The ozone hole occurs during the Antarctic spring, from September to early December, as strong westerly winds start to circulate around the continent and create an atmospheric container. Within this polar vortex, over 50 percent of the lower stratospheric ozone is destroyed during the Antarctic spring.”

I have answered the question asked,

Indeed, you have. Sadly, your answer was incorrect and laden with extraneous nonsense.

Less nonsense than yours!
