Bob Jeff Posted March 1, 2021 Posted March 1, 2021 I would appreciate some advice for a conceptual product. Which materials does snow not stick to or build up a significant amount?
Phi for All Posted March 1, 2021 Posted March 1, 2021 Slippery liquid-infused porous surfaces (SLIPS): https://www.fastcompany.com/3044276/literally-nothing-will-stick-to-this-new-slippery-surface

It's by Rustoleum and used to be called NeverWet, but seems to have been rebranded as Shield H2O. I once sprayed a regular old paper facial tissue (Kleenex) with this stuff and was able to use it as a bowl that successfully held water without breaking or deteriorating. While I'm not a standard barometer of what people in the world may think, IMO it was super cool. https://www.rustoleum.com/product-catalog/consumer-brands/shield-h2o/

I thought they'd make cool birdbaths, if the resin or whatever didn't taint the water. I've thought about a super-slick plastic for snow shovels before, but you actually need the snow to stick JUST enough so it stays in the scoop as you begin to toss it, and only releases at the end of the throw. If the snow didn't stick AT ALL, I think you'd change the physics of manual snow removal.

Bonus points if you then use a lathe to shape it further: https://www.instructables.com/Epoxy-Resin-and-Scrap-Wood-Bowl-Woodturning-How-To/ I saw a cool lamp made out of epoxy and pine cones turned on a lathe, but that's also off-topic (my apologies to the OP): https://www.pbs.org/video/resin-and-woodturned-table-lamp-bnej68/
