Gibbo Posted August 22, 2005 Posted August 22, 2005 Hey, I have a problem i cant seem to get around, wondering if anyone out there is willing to help me out. FeSO4.7H2O + H2SO4 --> what? is it just FeSO4 + H2SO4 + 7H2O? and how do i solve FeSO4 + H2SO4 + KMNO4 --> ? any help would be appreciated - Leigh
budullewraagh Posted August 22, 2005 Posted August 22, 2005 the above isnt necessarily totally correct. H2SO4 can get up to 98%, but generally contains 10% oleum (SO3, the anhydride) at that concentration. when added to hydrates or water, the oleum hydrolyzes with the aforementioned water to form more sulfuric acid. but it all depends on the concentration of the sulfuric acid. the question is pretty vague. FeSO4+H2SO4+KMnO4-->Fe2(SO4)3+K2SO4+MnSO4+H20 the permanganate is reduced and acts as a base while the ferrous cation is oxidized to ferric.
