forsakencreator
I do not know if this post belongs in Speculations, but it matched the reason I write this now. I was watching "Spider-Man Into the Spider-Verse" right now, for no reason at all, and it mentioned this massive "collider" device that could bring information, matter, and energy through different parallel universes. (By parallel universes, I mean the multiverse theory, where when you make a choice an alternate dimension is created housing the consequences and results of the other choice). I began to think about the implications of such a device; when the antagonist (the one who leads the project for the "collider") came up with the idea of the reactor, there had to be a parallel universe where he didn't. However, if the device connected said universes (which was it's purpose), then which dimension would overtake the other? If the dimension that had no collider overtook the dimension that did, then the collider would cease to exist. But if the collider ceased, then the other dimension can't exist in the current one because there is no collider to bring it there, so it collapses. But if it collapsed, it couldn't have overtaken the first dimension, so the collider is reinstated. Then it loops. Any activity whatsoever with the collider would cause a paradox, would it not? Another consequence of the collider is the possibility of multi-multiverses being created. That's a bit vague, so let me explain. Like I said earlier, the construction of the device would make a timeline where it was never constructed. If the paradox mentioned previously took place between dimensions, then it's likely that a sort of bubble would be created around that sphere of influence. This "bubble" would be like a parallel universe in itself -- another bubble-timeline is made where those two original timelines never went into a paradox. That's all I have to say. I know I'm not good at explaining this myself, and there may be some tiny thing in the multiverse theory that I missed that's making me look dumb right now, but it's worth a shot. swansont
It’s science fiction. You can’t assume they are following actual physical law. Any paradox you come up with is a failing of the plot, not science.
