It was relevant to the population question, and germane to the even more central question of the political will take any decisive action regarding climate change. I don't see how these matters can be isolated one from another.

Quantifying the effect of population on CO2 and identifying causes is science, but once anyone starts talking about legislation it's pretty clearly a politics discussion.
