I am disturbed by the increase of "anti science" attitudes among rich people in California

I now consider myself a "futurist". I am no longer afraid of GMOs and nuclear power!

I agree with Robert Zubrin all the time!

I would love to build a next generation nuclear power plant right next to them and watch them squeal.

I wish California was mostly middle class people who believed in science and space exploration.

I want humanity to dream again! I want humanity to aim for the stars again! The power of spaceflight and space exploration shouldn't be in the hands of a tiny few who are super wealthy!

I wish the rich aspired to be more like astronauts rather than act like reality show stars. America needs a cultural shift! Perhaps COVID is that forcing function that will facilitate this cultural shift.

I want a future where no one distrusted science.

Ad Astra!

And I’m appalled by how specious and bothersome your OPs so frequently are, but you don’t see me posting about it!

Oh. Wait…. Nvm

Exploration by civilized societies has almost always begun with a national effort to pave the way, followed by private enterprise once the paths have been established. Most of the interactions with space outside satellite orbits these days are still done by country-financed agencies (NASA, ESA, Roscosmos, JAXA, to name a few).

You should be focusing on the political changes necessary to nationalize the construction of infrastructure off planet. IOW, set up the harvesting of asteroids to mine metals for use in other outer space ventures without trying to make a profit and minimize the costs. Focus on building rather than making money, so that we pave the way for money-making ventures. I would recommend starting with a global solar grid that everyone can use for cheap electricity, to show the world how well some surgically applied socialism could work.

Distrust and skepticism are the only things separating science from dogmatic religion.

Science is not an unimpeachable monolith; it's a community of fallible human beings whose results should never be trusted, but rather constantly vetted and cross examined.

I might amend this to say it shouldn't be "trusted without question," but offering a provisional trust once questioned and surviving any criticisms seems to be a more appropriate path, IMO.

I think the strength of the scientific endeavor is that it is amenable to mentioned examination. That tricky bit however being that at least in more complicated areas a certain level of expertise is required for cross-examination is needed and this is where a certain level of trust is necessary.
