geordief Posted July 10, 2022 Posted July 10, 2022 (edited) I hear tell there is a whole new telescope coming on stream on the next couple of days What might be the most interesting results we could expect? There is no chance that we might get a better look at our Galaxy's black hole is there? Edited July 10, 2022 by geordief
Phi for All Posted July 11, 2022 Posted July 11, 2022 Quote The James Webb Space Telescope's first deep field view was shared on Monday. The image shows SMACS 0723, where a massive group of galaxy clusters act as a magnifying glass for the objects behind them, including faint, distant galaxies. https://www.cnn.com/2022/07/11/world/james-webb-space-telescope-first-image-scn/index.html
MigL Posted July 12, 2022 Posted July 12, 2022 Might give us an idea how common planets are in our galaxy, and how many are 'earth-like'. It has been suggested that 'rocky' planets, if not 'earth-like' planets, outnumber the stars. If so, we might have an actual number to plug into one term of the Drake Equation, and get a step closer to resolving the Fermi Paradox.
