PhDP Posted September 5, 2005 Posted September 5, 2005 Personally, I would prefer anthropology, but they don't really study the same thing, so no one is better than the other, they're different.
Commie_Pinko Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 Sociology is typically held as one of the least academic and reliable of the social-sciences. Personally, I thought anthropology was far more scientific (physical, anyway). Anthropology tends to have a better connotation in academic circles, but cultural anthropology can be somewhat fluffy. I think it's better than sociology, though.
Ophiolite Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 It might be helpfull if you could define what you mean by better. More scientific? More quantitatively based? Providing superior career opportunities? Easier to get a degree in? etc..
Morpheus Posted September 10, 2005 Author Posted September 10, 2005 Does anthropology have more of an accurate and scientific structure that can be applied more realistically than sociology?
AzurePhoenix Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 Anthropology deals with any of a number of branches, including homimin evolution, human biology, archaeology, and ethnology. It normally falls on hard scientifical evidence that can be observed and tested. Plus it's a friggin' Helluva lot cooler Probably more easily earned money to be made in sociology though
AzurePhoenix Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 I'm a zoology major who really loves paleontology and evolutionary biology, so anthro is right up my alley. Finding fossils, deducing what we can about their ancient behaviors and cultures, how and why we evolved, why Homo sapiens sapiens is the only remaining hominid, etc, etc, etc. I hate people, so studying the the reasons why people in general are so stupid doesn't really appeal to me
Mokele Posted September 12, 2005 Posted September 12, 2005 Both are inferior and horribly flawed, on account of not focusing on reptiles.
