Spider24 Posted September 11, 2005 Posted September 11, 2005 What variables might cause a human clone to differ from the person who donated the genetic material? Cell division or is it more involved than that?
rakuenso Posted September 11, 2005 Posted September 11, 2005 Lol its alot more than cell divisons. The mitotic machinery itself is far from perfect, as the DNA repair mechanisms do fail once in a while. Slowly the somatic damage accumulates. There are also plenty of societal influence as well. Like I said in your other thread, you need to be more specific, I don't even know where to start.
Yggdrasil Posted September 11, 2005 Posted September 11, 2005 Genetics does not competely define a phenotype. Environmental factors play a significant role in determining phenotype, and they can significantly alter levels of gene expression. See also: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nature_versus_nurture
Mokele Posted September 13, 2005 Posted September 13, 2005 To just name two, there's in-utero environment (such as nutrients or toxins the mother gets) and maternal resource provisioning (for instance, female birds will give eggs produced from a mating with a desirable male extra testosterone and more yolk, resulting in stronger, healthier babies).
