Brainee Posted March 22, 2023 Posted March 22, 2023 What is the purpose of cosecant, secant and cotangent since you can use sine, cosine and cotangent to find sides in a right angled triangle? If it is so.

mathematic Posted March 22, 2023 Posted March 22, 2023 You could ask what's the purpose of anything in mathematics?

If it is so. Not every problem is finding the sides of a right triangle. There are solutions to integrals that use the other trig functions.

If it is so. Here is a section of questions from an old trig textbook, involving the use of the secant, cosecant and cotangent. If you look in tables of standard integrals you will find these fromulae employed to solve the integrals, as swansont says.
studiot Posted March 23, 2023 Posted March 23, 2023 In case you think this is purely academic showing off, here is a practical use of the cotangent, much used in cartography and surveying. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tienstra_formula 1
Brainee Posted March 23, 2023 Author Posted March 23, 2023 What is difference in work area between sin, cos, tan and csc, sec, cot?
