Mart Posted October 23, 2005 Posted October 23, 2005 You forget to mention that your trousers would be ripped and you'd probably have sore knees (and elbows).
Cap'n Refsmmat Posted October 23, 2005 Posted October 23, 2005 everything not bolted down (including some things that are) would travel from west to east at over 1000 MPH' date=' many things would get broken.as for survivors, only those on airoplanes and the like would stand a chance.[/quote'] Only at the equator would there be a 1000mph speed--the distance to the axis is less and less as you go farther north or south, so the speed drops as well. Thought I'd have to point that out.
Conceptual Posted October 25, 2005 Posted October 25, 2005 I believe that everything on the earth is part of the earth and it would stop all at the same time. If things not bolted down are assumed to go flying, the oceans would tidal wave and the mountain ranges would lifting and fall. Every fault line would be under strains that would fail.

Not just that, all the energy associated with the angular momentum would suddenly be converted to some other form of energy...probably heat. Now that would be nuts!
