Sayonara Posted July 30, 2003 Posted July 30, 2003 It's a randomly selected number made notorious by a crappy deceased writer.
Sayonara Posted July 30, 2003 Posted July 30, 2003 It was the computer Deep Thought's answer to the question of Life, The Universe and Everything in the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Some people think that this means something because it was funny at the time.
traveller Posted July 30, 2003 Author Posted July 30, 2003 actually it's the answer to the ultimate question of life, the universe and everything.. we just haven't figured out the ultimate question yet..
Sayonara Posted July 30, 2003 Posted July 30, 2003 And if you're going to assume any of that is true, then we never will - since the Earth was demolished to make way for a hyperspace bypass a couple of decades ago
atinymonkey Posted July 30, 2003 Posted July 30, 2003 Wasn't it the mice who thought 42 up for a chat show? I thought Deep Thought never got an answer, on account of the volgon fleet demolishing it.
Sayonara Posted July 30, 2003 Posted July 30, 2003 Earth was the successor to Deep Thought, designed by the super computer to divine the question that led him to the answer 42.
JaKiri Posted July 31, 2003 Posted July 31, 2003 We got the question. Whether it was the right question because of the arrival of the Golgafrinchams is another matter.
Kedas Posted July 31, 2003 Posted July 31, 2003 42 is the simple version of 86 (4*2 4+2) also know as (area)51 (4+1 2-1) P.S. I have no idea what you guy are talking about could you give me a link. (typing 42 in google isn't really helping much edit: never mind found something http://www.empirenet.com/~dljones/

atinymonkey Posted July 31, 2003 Posted July 31, 2003 Or play the game, one that I'm fairly sure that nobody was supposed to finish................. http://www.douglasadams.com/creations/infocomjava.html
JaKiri Posted July 31, 2003 Posted July 31, 2003 You can only finish the game if you've read the book. Which makes the game a bit redundant really.
atinymonkey Posted August 1, 2003 Posted August 1, 2003 That's all part of the warm fuzzy lovelyness of the hitchhikers guide, that is.
NSX Posted August 2, 2003 Posted August 2, 2003 It's kinda freakish how numbers can appear where we least expect in our world... Reminds me of things like the Fibonnaci Numbers
PogoC7 Posted August 2, 2003 Posted August 2, 2003 http://innuendocornecopria.com/462.htm 46 and 2. More numbers.
atinymonkey Posted August 2, 2003 Posted August 2, 2003 Whuff.......... Not a site to vist late at night.
aman Posted August 2, 2003 Posted August 2, 2003 Live to be 42 and after that it's gravy. I was almost handsome as I am now when I was 42 and not quite as wise but if I'da stopped then my wife woulda had tons of life insurance and benefits. Now that I'm older my life insurance is cancelled. 42, I agree, Yah 42. But more is mo better. Just aman
atinymonkey Posted August 8, 2003 Posted August 8, 2003 Your not running for governor of California by any chance Aman? Is that why you’ve been away so long?
aman Posted August 8, 2003 Posted August 8, 2003 I actually would like the top position at the British Observatory, and Institute of Physics, and be addressed by the name Mr. God, but I'm just humbly a man and so past 42, still capable of running a piece of crap like California. My campaign slogan, "But it's really great crap". I'll win by 42 votes. Just aman
zaphod Posted December 3, 2004 Posted December 3, 2004 It's a randomly selected number made notorious by a crappy deceased writer. you take that back
Sayonara Posted December 3, 2004 Posted December 3, 2004 you take that back What? That Douglas Adams was a crap writer, or that he selected that number randomly? Surely you can't want me to take back his deceasedness.
