Halash Posted September 24, 2005 Posted September 24, 2005 how can i break down CO2 into oxygen and carbon??????????
woelen Posted September 24, 2005 Posted September 24, 2005 how can i break down CO2 into oxygen and carbon?????????? Burn some magnesium metal in a pure CO2 atmosphere, you get pure C and MgO. As a secundary side reaction you may also get some magnesium carbide. This separates the C, but not the O.
Halash Posted September 25, 2005 Author Posted September 25, 2005 is there any way to do it with just electricty, like when you break down water with electrolysis?
ecoli Posted September 25, 2005 Posted September 25, 2005 Use a plant. Cover it up in a dark place. Let it respirate. After a while, you get O2 and the plant material is mostly carbon.

ecoli Posted September 25, 2005 Posted September 25, 2005 pretty much the same was as we, or any other organism does it. The only difference is that we have to eat food, and plants make it themselves. http://users.rcn.com/jkimball.ma.ultranet/BiologyPages/C/CellularRespiration.html
