swansont Posted May 29 Posted May 29 It might be helpful to note what OS and browser one uses when reporting issues like this. They might be factors. The experience is not universal.

TheVat Posted May 29 Author Posted May 29 Yep, it's a chrome thing again, on an android os. (though it also manifested on a Windows desktop yesterday) I've turned off trackers and toggled on the popup blocker, with no deterrent effect. Finally switched to DDG, that took care of it. Price paid is DDG's slowness. Not too bad.
Mordred Posted May 29 Posted May 29 Chrome has a ad blocker extension I posted earlier this thread it's still works on my laptop. I could never get a version working for chrome on my phone however the Samsung ad-blocker for Samsung internet browser works.

It has a bult-in optional browser-level VPN. That works pretty well for me. Just got a new i5 Win11 laptop, W11 is a bit of a privacy nightmare in terms of MS putting ads in the new Outlook email, I'm seeing. Seeing the email-tyle ads as the last straw, I've just bought Proton VPN and email app services. It works at whole-system level and, apparently, '5 Eyes spying cartel' snooping resistant as well that US/UK are part of, so hopefully, it's up to the job at the lower level I want it. exchemist Posted June 16 Posted June 16 Yes the full page "Google vignette" enshittification ads are back, at least on MacBook Safari, after having been successfully turned off by our administrator a few months ago. I'm not yet running AdBlock Plus on my laptop, only on my iPad, where it gets rid of them. I think I'll install it on the Mac as well.

It uses the same filter lists as uBlock Origin that I use. Edited June 16 by StringJunky
