Phi for All Posted May 25 Posted May 25 5 hours ago, PeterBushMan said: 1) The Chinese made better Cars then the Americans now, BYD. What a ridiculous assessment! How hard did you look for evidence that shows they're "better"? If you want to be taken seriously, use some meaningful parameters. 5 hours ago, PeterBushMan said: 2) China could be the first one to put man on Mars. Assumptions aren't evidence. Please get a clue. 5 hours ago, PeterBushMan said: 3) NASA's chief is worried about China getting back to the moon first. Here's why NASA Administrator Bill Nelson told NPR he sees the U.S. in an urgent race with China. NASA admins have ALWAYS used foreign space agencies as motivation for further exploration. Your point here is nothing special. 5 hours ago, PeterBushMan said: 4) Boeing is falling, the Chinese aircraft, C919, is going to be a better one than Boeing's 737. Going to be?! Seriously, you can't make assumptions like this and expect it to be taken as evidence. After all, Boeing could suddenly focus on a better design. See how easy it is to assume? 5 hours ago, PeterBushMan said: 5) China has the capacity to build combat ships at 200 times the rate that the US can, per leaked US Navy intelligence. More assumptions that they will build them. 5 hours ago, PeterBushMan said: 6) GDP, when measured at PPP exchange rates, China's economy overtook that of the US in 2016 and is now about 20% bigger. And when measured nominally, it's not. < yawn > And frankly, the rest of your points are equally meaningless when used as comparisons. It's easy to list accomplishments of one country while ignoring the accomplishments of the other. And your title question lacks meaning as well. Replace? As the number one economy, perhaps, but you imply so much more by bringing up battles from 80 years ago. Your anti-West mindset always taints your arguments. You may have some valid points, but they're lost in your prejudice and discrimination. I get it, you hate the USA, but your points don't resonate much with me. I know China makes cheap electric cars, but I don't know if that's a good thing in the long run. We have many problems on this planet because of cheap Chinese products choking the air, water, and minerals from us. 1
swansont Posted May 25 Posted May 25 Your whole post screams, “citation needed!” (except the parts that are 50-70 years out of date. I mean, what’s the relevance?)
TheVat Posted May 25 Posted May 25 (edited) Also puzzled as to why these particular metrics should be somehow the measure of a nation? You can keep your giant fungible junk excreting economy and Martian pissing contests and bullet trains. To many Americans like me, these are of far less importance than how we aspire to grow each person's character and freedom for learning and creative exploration - for all our citizens. There's a reason when you search the phrase "innovation hubs" on a search engine that a disproportionate number are located in the U.S. Edited May 25 by TheVat 1
Endy0816 Posted May 25 Posted May 25 China is likely to have another Civil War. There's elsewhere that has greater risk potential. Climate change is something of a wildcard though. Are glossing over lot of issues China is having lately with shoddy practices. Fake and defective products, tofu-dreg construction. They're about where we were at as a country decades ago.
pzkpfw Posted May 25 Posted May 25 Point 10 seems silly to me. (Well, all the points.) For a start it wasn't a total war against China, for example the UN/US where not bombing Chinese territory. And the casualty counts for the Battle of Chosin Reservoir are the definition of cherry picking. https://www.statista.com/statistics/1131592/korean-war-military-casualties/

Battle of Chosin Reservoir, Wikipedia Fact Check: The Battle of Choisin Reservoir (장진호 전투) began on 27 November 1950 during the Korean war when a Chinese force of 120,000 men under the command of General Song Shilun (宋时轮) surprised a UN force of just 30,000 men under the command of Major General Oliver P.Smith - (N.B. UN = ‘United Nations’ *not* American. British Marines and two Regiments of the British 3rd and 7th Army were present, as well as American Marines). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Chosin_Reservoir Over the next 17 days, the UN force managed to break out of their encirclement and successfully withdrew to the port of Hungnam. Both sides suffered heavy casualties from battlefield action, and from the freezing weather with temperatures as low as -36F. The UN forces suffered around 13,000 casualties (c.1100 killed) while the Chinese are thought to have suffered almost 60,000 casualties (around 29,000 batttle casualties). For which reason the battle is usually evaluated as a ‘Pyrrhic Victory’ for the Chinese - i.e. one in which the losses substantially outweighed any possible military gains. 2

MigL Posted May 26 Posted May 26 Most important metric ... Where would you rather live ? And if your answer is China, I will gladly start a crowd fund to buy you a one way ticket. 1

More of a "matrix" given the number of people who want in, verses the number of people who want to keep them out; bc they're the real enemy. Blue pill or red?
