sun Posted October 1, 2005 Posted October 1, 2005 A sports car accelerates from a standing start and covers a quater mile distance (1 mile= 1609) in 6.13 s, calculate the average acceleration of the car in SI unites? is this how you do this prob? find the velocity, then plug it into the average velocity formula to find final velocity, after this, just use the average acceleration formula
mezarashi Posted October 1, 2005 Posted October 1, 2005 By average acceleration, you would mean FINAL VELOCITY - INITIAL VELOCITY over TIME. But the problem is you don't know the final velocity, initial velocity is zero. It's better you use the kinematics equation: d = vt + 1/2at^2 where d is displacement, v is inital velocity = 0, t is time, and a is constant acceleration.
