I have a very old 2012 HP  Notebook Model 2000 (Windows 10, used to be 8.1) and the driver for the SD is outdated I think because it doesn't register anything.

Providing make and model of the SD card would be helpful. It may be possible to find a driver that works from older software support sites or technical details such as from datasheets, etc with regards to the SD cards requirements.

Windows will have a driver for it.
The fact that it's not even detected means Windows doesn't load it into device manager and load a driver for generic SD cards.
Older systems, using a BIOS, might not have the SD card slot enabled, or in the boot sequence.
Enter your BIOS ( there should be a message on how at the bottom of your boot screen ) and look for any entries relating to SD card to enable it.
