I wonder what @JohnDBarrow thinks about the Bishop of Washington's sermon to Trump, extolling the virtues of traditional Christian compassion towards immigrants and people of differing sexual orientations. Seems Trump is hopping mad about being reminded of what the New Testament has to say. 

Is Christianity part of the "culture and traditions"  of America, or not, I wonder?

In Germany, giving the Hitler salute is a criminal offence - mostly you’d get fined, but technically it could earn you up to three years in prison. Either way you’re left with a criminal record upon conviction.

Could you please tell us where you got the idea that the Mercury trademark was retired because it might offend someone on religious grounds?  As far as I know, all the major auto manufacturers consolidated their various brand names for economic reasons. 

You are just as free as anyone else to vote with your dollars.  You are just as free as anyone else to interpret names and symbols any way you wish, including fun or harmless.

Uh, no, it is not.  Unless you are a DT / Maga supporter because Dem ideology got him elected.  

People thought "civil interaction" in trade & travel were the key to survival.  Those "civil interactions" were at an all time high in 1914, just before the most deadly period of carnage in history began.  

Equal treatment, trade & travel, are all great, but they won't prevent the next explosion that should kill ~ 2 billion.  

Ideology does not solve a problem that has defied the best scholars in international relations for centuries.  The cause of human conflict has not been solved.  It needs a major intellectual effort from a diverse group of scholars, keeping avenues of feedback open to the periphery in case there is an Alan Turing out there.  Then we might solve it & you can be certain that ideology won't.   Otherwise, the SHTF is on the way, regardless of what party is in office.  Of course, a bad enough actor can move it up.

Maybe so, but it is primarily dangerous at this point because it got the right wing elected that may be worse.  

The extreme right, and the extreme left were the ones that committed the worst genocides in history.  Both sides do bad things & both sides delude themselves into thinking the ideology of their tribe is some kind of absolute truth, when it is not.

A nation of immigrants, founded by immigrants, always a multicultural mixing pot. That's Americans heritage. 

As for all those companies that changed product names etc etc etc, sounds a lot like people practicing their fundamental 1st amendment rights to me.

Right. The fact that a word and phrase that comes from ebonics is the one being demonized, shouldn't be lost on anyone. Definitionally it is no different to being aware, but people still use the term "awareness campaign" and the term "raise awareness" without batting an eye. Even heard the phrase "raise awareness of the dangers of wokism" like what? raise awareness of the dangers of being aware? Are you broken? 

As far as I'm concerned, anyone telling you awareness itself is the enemy, is someone trying to benefit from your lack of awareness. It's easier to steal from and abuse the blind and the sleeping than those who are awake.

Also, it wouldn't really matter. Let's assume that folks just caved in and now suddenly decide to ignore civil rights issues, then there would be something else they would disagree on. And the only way to address that would be to have exactly the same social outlook. At which point we would only have on one party and full Gleichschaltung. Which, presumably is the goal. From this perspective it is a bit silly to state that folks were driven to the far right because of woke or whatever. Because it minimizes the actual reason. Folks want a society with inequality, as long as they have a shot of being on top of others. We do see it with how folks use anti-abortion laws as cudgels to reduce women's rights and put them in diminished and increasingly dangerous roles. At some point we really should start calling a spade a spade and not pretend that folks are unwittingly doing things.
