Olga_V Posted Thursday at 02:21 PM Posted Thursday at 02:21 PM Hi! Has anybody had any experience with fashion history? If so, does anyone know if there were western designers who dealt with Constructivism or Cubism? I know that there were some Soviet artists such as Lyubov Popova, Varvara Stepanova and others, but I can’t find any information about western ones. I was wondering if such artists existed. Any help here would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
TheVat Posted Thursday at 03:08 PM Posted Thursday at 03:08 PM I am a museum rat and know a bit about modern art. I think YSL was known to be influenced by Cubism. Google Yves Saint Laurent and Cubism, you should find something.
Florence W Posted Thursday at 04:51 PM Posted Thursday at 04:51 PM I agree, Yves Saint Laurent has some dresses inspired by Picasso for instance - check the Cubist Cloak, 1988. I can mention a British designer Mary Quant as well. As for Constructivism - I'm not aware of any other designers except the Soviet ones you've mentioned.
