akcapr Posted October 6, 2005 Posted October 6, 2005 does anyone have any idea of how i could make some of these alcohols : - butanol - propanol - isoamyl alcohol (for esters)
budullewraagh Posted October 7, 2005 Posted October 7, 2005 just use the alkyl halides for esterification for your n-alcohols, take the alkene and do anti-markownikoff addition via hydroboration and oxidation.
raivo Posted October 7, 2005 Posted October 7, 2005 Butanol can be made by fermentation. If i rem it right just like ethanol but with different bacteria. I plan to experiment with this someday if i have more time.
akcapr Posted October 7, 2005 Author Posted October 7, 2005 Sorry Bud, but ughh, i dont believe i know what that is. Could you eleborate?
YT2095 Posted October 7, 2005 Posted October 7, 2005 Bud, it`s usualy wise (and courteous) to keep the answer at the level of the original posts question, you may know what you`re on about and be perfectly correct, but it doesn`t help the questioner much
budullewraagh Posted October 7, 2005 Posted October 7, 2005 just giving a few things for him to google. do some searches on anti-markownikoff hydration of olefins
akcapr Posted October 7, 2005 Author Posted October 7, 2005 i did, and , i didnt find anything that helped. out of the 10 or so pages that showed up none of them showed me how to make alcohols from alkenes. and is it even possible to make "isoamyl" alcohol that way?
