ciderminx Posted October 19, 2005 Posted October 19, 2005 Does anyone know how salty sea water is? Also, if i was to make up my own solution, how much salt would i need to add to what volume of water? Thanks for your help guys.
YT2095 Posted October 19, 2005 Posted October 19, 2005 about 35 grams per litre of water should be just fine
ecoli Posted October 19, 2005 Posted October 19, 2005 of course if you wanted to synthesize you're own seawater, you'd need more then just NaCl. Here's a list of major constituents (scroll down a bit) http://plaza.ufl.edu/mrosenme/Seawater_Chemistry.htm
YT2095 Posted October 19, 2005 Posted October 19, 2005 easier than that would be to go to a pet shop where they sell marine fish and get the salts from there (it`s pre-mixed), no guesswork involved then, but she probably already knows about that
insane_alien Posted October 20, 2005 Posted October 20, 2005 or you could drive to the sea with a bucket like i do.
ecoli Posted October 20, 2005 Posted October 20, 2005 I just assumed she lived too far from the ocean to get the water, or else that would be the obvious solution. The great thing about sea water it that all it's constituents are in constant proportions, so no matter how much water you have, you can tell the concentration of all the components from knowing the concentration of one component.
