umer007 Posted October 29, 2005 Posted October 29, 2005 Which one of these oxidation reactions doesn't occur in cells? 2 H2 + O2 ------> 2 H2O + 114 kcal C6H12O6 + 6 O2 ------> 6 CO2 + 6 H2O + 686 kcal glucose palmitic acid + 23O2 -----> 16 CO2 + 16 H2O + 2338 kcal Please give a reason for your selection
Jarryd Posted October 30, 2005 Posted October 30, 2005 I am in no way confident with my answer but that first equation doesn't really seem to make sense, why would the synthesis of a compound release energy don't reactions such as that require energy?
insane_alien Posted October 30, 2005 Posted October 30, 2005 see we don't just give away answers but this is a really easy one. i will tll you the reaction but you must make up the reasons. its the top one. the reaction releases energy because the water molecule is of lower potential energy than the seperate molecules of H2 and O2. just look at what happens when you ignite H2. it gives off a lot of energy.
Jarryd Posted October 30, 2005 Posted October 30, 2005 Oh lol.. i think we posted at the exact same time IA.. i kind of gave it away..
