5614 Posted October 30, 2005 Posted October 30, 2005 Are you using the Java link at the top of the page or a program like MIRC? Can you connect to any other servers?
Cap'n Refsmmat Posted October 30, 2005 Posted October 30, 2005 I think he's using the chat link at the top of the page. In which case I suggest downloading X-Chat or some other decent IRC client.
insane_alien Posted October 30, 2005 Author Posted October 30, 2005 i was using the link. i'll try X-Chat.
insane_alien Posted October 30, 2005 Author Posted October 30, 2005 i had a bad experience with MIRC. any free one's? X-Chat is looking for $20
ecoli Posted October 30, 2005 Posted October 30, 2005 i had a bad experience with MIRC. any free one's? X-Chat is looking for $20 what happened? here's a list of IRC clients http://www.ircreviews.org/clients/ If you download the Java Appelet (4th from the top) you should be able to run the chat just by clicking the link in SFN.
Cap'n Refsmmat Posted October 30, 2005 Posted October 30, 2005 X-Chat for Windows is paid, but it's under a non-restrictive license so you can get it free. http://www.silverex.org/news/
insane_alien Posted October 30, 2005 Author Posted October 30, 2005 Right i have x-chat now how do i log on to SFN chat using it? i'm a n00b at this stuff
5614 Posted October 31, 2005 Posted October 31, 2005 I have mIRC so I can only say for that, but you'll want to log onto the server which is blackcobalt (me thinks) and then log onto the SFN channel, may need to use #sfn But x-chat might be different and I haven't use the server for a while. There are a few "How to use IRC" threads around which have tutorials for the java applet, mIRC, x-chat and maybe more, so search for that... if not then use the help file for the program.
Cap'n Refsmmat Posted October 31, 2005 Posted October 31, 2005 For X-Chat: Open it up. You should get a "Server List." Add a new server. It should be irc.blackcobalt.net/6667. Set it to log on to #sfn at startup. Hit OK. If it doesn't connect to the server automatically, type /server irc.blackcobalt.net and wait for it to connect. Then type /join #sfn
ecoli Posted October 31, 2005 Posted October 31, 2005 I have Java Appelet for IRC, I can open it up right from the link on the SFN homepage... no pain, no hassle.

insane_alien Posted November 1, 2005 Author Posted November 1, 2005 X-Chat alhough the shortcut says X-Chat 2
Klaynos Posted November 1, 2005 Posted November 1, 2005 yes it'd be x-chat2, but do you know which version you grabed from the site? 2.4.5-3 I guess... It *might* want you to grab For Ruby scripting plugin: Ruby 1.8 (15 MB). If you use custom installation path, adjust it accordingly in plugins/rubyenv.ini. as well, but I don't really know why it would, dave's the guy to answer there... :|
insane_alien Posted November 1, 2005 Author Posted November 1, 2005 Don't worry i got it sorted. stupid redundant firewalls.... mumble mumble.....
