I am reserching Scanning Tunneling Electron Microscopes, what are pro's and con's of them?

any help would be appreciated, thanks for any help.

Well the advantages would be that it allows us to see and position atoms with great accuracy and detail.

It also allows us to add/remove electrons (create ions) which can cause a reaction.

As for disadvantages, well, they usually operate in a very strong vacuum (which usually falls under the category of Ultrahigh Vacuum, ie. a pressure lower than 100 nanopascals). Sometimes they use very low temperatures as well.

Well if you search 'Scanning Tunneling Electron Microscopes' on google then it will give you a lot of info on the things:

http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=Scanning+Tunneling+Electron+Microscopes&meta=

but as for the actual ads/disads, well, if you know what they are and how they work then it's not too hard to see ads/disads.

&

(at the bottom)

are 2 good sites about STMs (Scanning Tunneling Microscopes).
