Does any one know, or think, of any data recovery software better than GetDataBack?

see info: http://www.runtime.org/downloads.htm

because my HD has some sort of failure that from now on, every time I start the laptop, it never boot into Windows Xp Home as it usually does...

I have managed to install another Xp onto the other partition of the same HD, and I can view the other failure partition, but for some of the folders ,when double-clicked, the computer says something like directory either damaged or corrupted or unreadable or something like that...

therefore I try GetDataBack for FAT, but another problem is, it pops up alot of window saying blabla sector cannot be read or blabla block cannot be read... :-(

please help....

thanks

thanks Dave.

The disk scanner tells you the bad sectors and that's it, but I cant do anything about it.... My first priority is to recover my file, not to analyse the error of the HD...

I am like 90% sure about the malfunction. It should be the physical damage...and I think there must be some programs which can mark those bad section of the HD so the OS wont place data in there. Any one knows such software?

Secondly, refering to my first aim, what is the best file recovery software you know?

please help

thanks

You said GetDataBack is for FAT... winXP is NTFS so it won't work.

When you run the error checking thing for winXP you can select to 'Automatically fix file system errors' and 'Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors' you want to select both of these.

That might fix your problem with the error checking thing.

5614, my Xp isn't ntfs, I chose fat in the very beginning of installation...:)

ANY WAY, after running some scan and stuff, I can now open the directories which I couldnot open before.... and now I am backing them up...

whatsoever, as I asked before, does any one know any software that "tells" windows what sectors/blocks are bad to prevent my OS using those sectors which can cause serious error at any time??

please help here, because I am short of money to buy a new HD...well, also my HD has only few bad sectors, but just few can make it so problematic...

please help

thanks

I don't know of any suitable software.

Try using google or going to a local computer shop and seeing if anyone can help you there.

If the bad sector is caused by corrupted data then a format would sort your problem.

If it's a physical issue then there's nothing you can do, the HDD is partly broken.
