mooeypoo
Your fingernails grow faster than your toenails. Can you please start putting up references? We're a science forum, not a "trust me, I checked" forum. Please. CaptainPanic
Fact: Only 4 out of the first 100 posts in this thread contained a linked reference to some background article... A link like this. Phi for All
FACT: Thomas Edison was so adamant that the US should use direct current, supplied by smaller generators rather than rival Westinghouse's alternating current, that he endorsed the use of the electric chair for executions in order to prove how lethal AC current was, even though he was not in favor of capital punishment. http://www.snopes.com/science/edison.asp

Mr Skeptic
The average human eats 4 spiders in their lifetime at night. http://www.washington.edu/burkemuseum/spidermyth/myths/whileyousleep.html From your link, Myth: You unknowingly swallow an average of four live spiders in your sleep each year. Fact: This very widespread urban legend has no basis in fact.

DJBruce
According to the Food and Drug Administration, chocolate can have up to 60 insect fragments per 100 grams and up to one rodent's hair per 100 grams. Here is the FDA Defect Levels Handbook. Although I do not suggest reading it if you are eating or plan on eating today.

iNow
On the north pole of saturn, there is a group of clouds that are the shape of a perfect hexagon.http://www.hemmy.net/2008/08/03/mysterious-hexagon-on-saturn/ It would be incorrect to assume it is just a "group of clouds." We really don't yet know what the feature is. http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/cassini/media/cassini-20070327.html The new images taken in thermal-infrared light show the hexagon extends much deeper down into the atmosphere than previously expected, some 100 kilometers (60 miles) below the cloud tops. A system of clouds lies within the hexagon.

swansont
http://federalbureauofmiscellaneousinformation.com/node?page=3 You can't just copy/paste the displayed link on SFN. If it has ellipses, it means the displayed link was shortened. Anyway, it's just a site of collected items, that are not sourced. However, there was a study, and it's mentioned here: http://www.straightdope.com/columns/read/1143/do-cats-always-land-unharmed-on-their-feet-no-matter-how-far-they-fall along with an objection to how the statistics were collected. Meshal
According to Wikipedia ‘’ the atmosphere of earth is a layer of gases surrounding the planet earth that is retained by earth’s gravity. The atmosphere protects life on earth by absorbing ultraviolet solar radiation.’’* And reference to NASA ‘’ the atmosphere also protects us from high _energy radiation and the frigid vacuum of space.’’* It is interesting for me but what is more interesting than that? The book of Muslims refers to this fact clearly before one thousand years ... the book (Quran) said what means ‘’ we made the sky preserved protected roof yet still they turn away from our signs...’’ * (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atmosphere_of_Earth) *(http://www.nasa.gov/audience/forstudents/9-12/features/912_liftoff_atm.html)
iNow
It is interesting for me but what is more interesting than that? The book of Muslims refers to this fact clearly before one thousand years ... the book (Quran) said what means ‘’ we made the sky preserved protected roof yet still they turn away from our signs...’’ Yeah, because varying interpretations of such clear and precise language is not at all possible. Psst... My meaning is this: That could mean anything you want it to, so is really without utility.
Mr Skeptic
The trouble is there are multiple possible interpretations for that. For example, it could mean that the atmosphere is protected from being damaged, so that we can't pollute it. It could mean that we can't "climb" the atmosphere, ie fly. If someone says something vague enough then there is almost certainly an interpretation that happens to be true. The Nostradamus folks do this all the time; fortune tellers do it professionally.
