blike
There was an article in CNN back in June about scientists testing the theory relativity. But newer theories involving gravity and particle physics have led some scientists to speculate that Einstein's idea may not hold true in space. Any ideas on what these "new theories involving gravity and particle physics" are? I havn't heard anything about any recent theories contradicting relativity. Here is a link to the CNN article. CNN no longer carries it on their page, so here is google's cache This was already confirmed on GPS satellites where the clocks frequencies were downshifted 44.47 parts in 10^12. . Silly scientists. aman
Thanks blike. It's inspiring and I'll get back. I'm already coming up with some ideas. It's all explainable with the right minds on it. Just aman
aman
Here's a good mathematical explanation of relativity and the problems encountered with light speed. I found it very well explained and simplified for a novice. http://www.daftwat.com/relativity.htm Just aman

kenel
Blike, make me a wormhole, and an omlett....we'll test this theory of relativity ourselves. Forget the private sector, they never solve anything anyways.
aman
We have recipes for wormholes. We just are lacking the energy. Tesla talked about an energy source where a small input of energy had a resonsance that increased its value exponentially and was working on it before his death. The answer is out there and we have a lot more tools and education then Tesla but we have to think like him, outside the box. There is an incredible amount of energy in our apperent nothing and we have to tap it Scientists are working on ways of making more energy out of less input. It's supported by science investigation. Somebodies going to do it and it might be one of you youngsters. It will open up the universe. Just aman
fafalone
Hydrogen fuel cells are a step in the right direction, but you're absolutely right. Our energy abilities right now are in desperate need of revolution, because they're unbelievably inefficient, especially on the extraplanetary scale. quantumdream
Sonoluminescence (light from aqueous acoustic bubbles) seems to be the biggest bang for the buck for rapid mechanical energy conversion. But back to the topic. Apparently an ether-like effect measured in the experiment first referred to has been violating the symmetry of relativity. The correction term mentioned might not arise from a macroscopic ether, but a microscopic quantum gravity, a "compactified ether." First repeat the experiment using a spherically precise microwave cavity, noting any directional anomalies. Calculate whether :delta:t=n*R^2/r, where :delta:t is the quantum time correction for an orbit of radius r around a mass whose Schwartzchild radius is R. I obtain n~2.5 (i.e., near unity or equivalence) for this experiment. This equation is my approximation for quantum gravity. Please see my website's second article. aman
There's a lot to digest. Thanks for the posts. As far as sonoluminescence, I've read a lot of controversial reports since everything new develops it's critics and some say the temperature and energy effect is a dead end. I personnaly agree with you that this is a direction to explore. I guess we'll see pretty soon. I think the main problem will be generating the frequencies that will work. Some may be beyond our capabilities. Our universe is made up of crude parts to be sharp tools at this level. Just aman
fafalone
Quantum gravity is a bit more complicated. Lorentzian quantum gravity in 2 dimensions for n coupled Ising models: G(:lclambda:, t, :beta: ) = :lsum: e-:lclambda:NTZnT( :beta: ) .................T (:eqv: Tt

Silly scientists. that is old news.there is a book written by Steven Hocking called"short histiry of time".close to earth u feel its gravity and there each process is slow than in outer space(incloding wach clocking)even on the top of 70 meters high tower there are slight difference.it can be measured by modern atomic clocks.that mean process are slowed down in graity field not time.time is made by our imagen to compare process in the world. fafalone
Hawking* Time dialation in atomic clocks on planes was due to velocity. Gravity also dialates time. These are seperate components.

the GardenGnome
Contradicting the part that nothing travels faster than light or just the whole theory?
fafalone
Gravity propagates faster than light... (the latest experiment saying otherwise was mistakenly calculating the speed of light, rather than that of gravity)
