earthquake sensor

A friend of mine wants to build or buy a seismograph and I said I would help him. He wants to detect earth tremors and display them on a computer in real time. So, some questions.

 

1. Is there an internet site that you could use someone elses sensor to produce charts on your computer? Similar to how you can hook yourself up to webcams all over the US.

 

2. Where can we get some inexpensive sensors.

 

3. Is there a link to a build your own sensor that is reliable?

 

I have some links, but I would like some more input....
