Daecon Posted December 14, 2005 Posted December 14, 2005 When suffering from depression, could periods of feeling in a good mood, being quite friendly and "benign" (for lack of a better word) be classed as hypomania, or simply as state of temporary respite from the symptoms of depression? If these periods of feeling benign are actually hypomania and not temporary lack of depression (as in feeling "neutral"), could this be symptomatic of bi-polar disorder?
NeonBlack Posted December 14, 2005 Posted December 14, 2005 To be considered manic, you would have to be completely out of your mind during these periods. It's much more that just being in a really good mood or having a lot of energy. It's like you can't concentrate and you have these outrageous ideas that seem brilliant at the time. One minute you're planning on how to make a million dollars froma lemonade stand, the next, you're taking apart your car and building a space ship. And often times during a manic stage, you're likely to end up doing something that could get you arrested or killed. I seriously doubt you have bipolar mood disorder. It's probably just normal mood cycles.
Daecon Posted December 14, 2005 Author Posted December 14, 2005 Ah, if that's the case then yes, it must be mood swings. ...stupid hormones. *grumble*
YT2095 Posted December 14, 2005 Posted December 14, 2005 as he said Maniacal states are largely SELF orientatated as being the main focus. HYPO meaning under or less than, when combined with a "Mania" is almost a contradiction and certainly self defeating. it`s also worth pointing out that "Moods" can last a long while and are NOT always indicatative of a psychological disorder such as "depression" (or the likes).
