can someone please tell me the hazard symbols for the following:

 

sodium chloride

potassium chloride

calcium carbonate

magnesium sulphate

 

mostly appreciated ;)

well non of them are toxic, flamable, explosive, oxidising, radioactive or corrosive. in fact if they`re pure enough they`re perfectly edible in small amounts, although the magnesium sulphate works as a mild laxative.

I`m not aware that they would even have any hazard symbols?

hydrochloric acid is corrosive

 

barium chloride is harmful maybe toxic

 

nitric acid corrosive

 

silver nitrate is corrosive...you guys are brill thanx alot

sodium hydroxide is corrosive: This is corrosive and fairly toxic as well. It destroys organic (including human) tissue, even at moderate concentration. This makes it toxic.

 

hydrochloric acid is corrosive: It is very corrosive and very toxic, when concentrated. When diluted it still is quite corrosive, but its toxicity quickly lowers on dilution. The concentrated acid, however, gives an intensely choking fume. Never take a deep breathe near the open mouth of a bottle of concentrated hydrochloric acid. You'll regret such a thing :D .

 

barium chloride is harmful maybe toxic: It is VERY toxic.

 

nitric acid corrosive: VERY corrosive and intensely poisonous. It also is a strong oxidizer.

 

silver nitrate is corrosive: corrosive and toxic, and a strong oxidizer. It carries the harmful cross, the corrosive sign and the sign for strong oxidizer.

However of all of those, silver nitrate is the least of your worries in terms of 'toxicity'. AgNO3 is still used to chemically cauterize small wounds while disinfecting at the same time.

really! amazing even though its kinda toxic

That exactly the point, its toxic too those nasty bacteria too but not so much too us in a very diluted solution :)

 

Amazing some of the uses for highly toxic and explosive materials, Cyanide is used to extract gold, Sodium Azide is used in air bags, the Armstrong mix is used in toy caps ... :D
