whenever i think of relatives, its always in a certain order. ie mom and dad and not dad and mom. if i dont say and/or think it in this certain order it sounds wrong. does this happen to anyone else? why does this happen?

I know what you mean eruheru. Maybe it has something to do with listing things alphabetical, or perhaps the way the words rhyme or maybe its syllabically. Any other insights?

Possibly due to how the concept was introduced to you. For example, my parents always refer to my grandparents as "Grandma and Opa" and not vise-versa. So, understandably, that's how I list them as well. Maybe that is how you came to list them; it's how they were introduced (and reinforced).

You tend to list them, I guess, by how important they are to you. In terms of my cousins, I list the oldest first, since I've known them the longest. My aunts and uncles I list by who I'm related to. As far as Mom and Dad, for most people their mother is more important than their father.
