How to derive the following Brinell Hardness Formula ?

Brinell.gif

I have qustion about that thing......

" A brinell hardness measurment is made on a ductile iron (air quenched) using a 10 mm diameter sphere of tungsten carbide. A load of 3000 kg produces a 3.91 mm diameter impression in the iron surface. Calculate the brinell hardness number of this alloy?

The brinell hardness is calculated by dividing the load by the area of the curved surface of the indention, (the area of a hemispherical surface is arrived at by multiplying the square of the diameter by Pi and then dividing by 2)
