Not really, we need the middle letters to provide cues concerning beginning and end and the overall size and shape of the words. Having said that, I just blew my own foot off by reading what you wrote, didn't I? Dangit.

Similar research was done, exposing either just the upper parts and lower parts of the letters in a sentence, according to results, we read the TOP parts of the letters (English) more than the bottom parts.

You may test this with a partner and a rule (not transparent!) on a pge at random in any book, cover the top parts of the words, THEN try make sense of it then do the same on another page where you can only see the tops of the words :)

 

I have NO idea how or why is is such, test it yourselves and go figure :)

 

I THINK it`s to do with probability/Uniqueness ? but am more than prepared to be wrong also :)
